Home Pest Inspections Identify Termites and Other Risks

Buying a home is a big decision, and part of the approval process usually includes some type of property inspection. Pest Control of Southeast Michigan has worked with most of the major real estate agents throughout Lenawee, Monroe, Hillsdale and Washtenaw counties, providing advanced home inspections related to pests and rodents.

Termites damage more than a half million homes every year. These wood destroying pests can quickly wreck a home, and it does not matter what the age of the building is. Many home sales procedures include a pest inspection, in fact, FHA, VA and most bank loan financing options require it.

A licensed pest professional can identify existing damaged wood, which is an obvious sign of problems. They will also know the places to examine to find entry points, including attics and crawlspaces. They search for telltale signs of infestation such as termite tunnels, exit holes, and staining.

A Wood Destroying Insect report will show wood destroying pests, and is the standard inspection report form used by VA, VHA and most real estate agents, and banks. While termites are a common pest that is identified, other wood destroying pests include carpenter ants, carpenter bees, old house borers and powder-post beetles are identified as well.

If you’re in the market to buy a home, consider adding a home pest inspection to the buying process. It could reduce the risk of expensive repairs later, when wood destroying infestation is discovered.
